HSI – Population Growth 2
- Houston gained 145,820 people between 2000 and 2010. However many areas within the city border actually lost population.
- This is a major problem, since as the map above illustrates, many of these areas losing population correlate with areas where the public high schools are located.

HSI – Poverty
The drop in poverty rates between Yr1990 and Yr2000 compared to the sharp increase in income between Yr1990 and Yr2000 shows that the local economy, if functioning like it did between Yr1990 and Yr2000, is capable of lifting persons out of poverty.
This figure shows the percent of persons below poverty in Houston.
